Tour Itinerary

  • DAY 1 Dunhuang

    Transfer via: flight - your arrangement

    Activities for today: Airport to hotel transfer, Mogao Grottoes

    This morning you are met at Dunhuang Airport and transferred to your hotel for a short rest. In the afternoon, drive to visit the world famous treasure house of Buddhism - Mogao Grottoes. Constructed over 1000 years, from the 4th to the 14th centuries, the caves hold the world's richest treasure house of Buddhist sutras, murals and sculptures. They are the greatest and most consummate repository of historical and cultural collection between China and other countries. The most noted collections are many pilgrims painted murals,clay statues and 50,000 manuscripts written in different languages.

  • DAY 2 Dunhuang

    Activities for today: Pass of the Jade Gate, Han Dynasty Great Wall, Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark

    After breakfast, we will drive across the Gobi Desert to visit the important site on the Silk Road - Yumenguan (Pass of the Jade Gate). It was a strategic fort on the ancient Silk Road. It protected Dunhuang against invasion from the west. Then visit the best preserved Han Dynasty Great Wall, it was build for defending the nomadic Xiongnu during the Han Dynasty (206 BC--220 AD). Later, visit Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark.

  • DAY 3 Dunhuang/Jiayuguan

    Activities for today: Echoing Sand Mountain, Crescent Lake

    Your day begins with a tour of the famous Echoing Sand Mountain and Crescent Lake, where you can enjoy the camel riding like the traders on the ancient Silk Road. Drive 385km (5h) to Jiayuguan (Jiayu Pass) in the afternoon.

  • DAY 4 Jiayuguan/Zhangye

    Activities for today: Jiayu Pass

    This morning visit Jiayu Pass. This Ming Dynasty fort was built in 1372, and subsequently enlarged and strengthened. It enjoys the reputation of "the Strongest Pass Under Heaven". In the afternoon, drive eastwareds to Zhangye.

  • DAY 5 Zhangye/Wuwei

    Activities for today: Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple, Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park

    This morning visit Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple, which is well-known for the remains of China's biggest indoor sculpture of Nirvana Buddha. Then move on to see the colourful rock formations in Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park. In the afternoon, continue drive eastwards to Wuwei.

  • DAY 6 Wuwei/Lanzou

    Activities for today: Leitai Han Dynasty Tomb

    Visit Leitai Han Dynasty Tomb. The tomb was built in the last years of Eastern Han Dyansty. It was discovered in 1969 underneath a Chinese scholartree at Leitai, the site a temple delicated to the god of thunder built in the middle of Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Artifacts found in the tomb include the famous bronze galloping horse, which is now used as the logo of Chinese tourism. After some hours at the tomb, drive to Lanzhou.

  • DAY 7 Lanzhou/Xiahe

    Activities for today: Binglingsi Grottoes

    This wonderful day begins with a boat trip on the Yellow River to the Buddhist caves at Binglingsi (Binglingsi Grottoes). Accessible only by water, 183 caves, dating from the early years of the Western Jin Dynasty (266-316), are spread along rock cliffs for over a mile. We will visit those caves that have the finest sculptures and paintings. In the afternoon, drive to Xiahe.

  • DAY 8 Xiahe/Lanzhou

    Activities for today: Labrang Monastery

    This morning, we will visit Labrang Monastery, one of China's six great monasteries of the Yellow Hat Sect. The Tibetan-style temples are lovely, their golden roofs capped with traditional images and their fine interiors dimly lit by yak-butter lamps. In the afternoon return to Lanzhou.

  • DAY 9 Lanzhou/Exit

    Activities for today: Gansu Provincial Museum, airport transfer

    After hotel breakfast, visit Gansu Provincial Museum. Perhaps visit Zhongshan Bridge, Lanzhou Waterwheel Garden and Statue of Mother Yellow River if time permits. Drop off at Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport(LHW).
