Museum of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
The museum on Xibei Road in Urumqi is a center of cultural relics collection and scientific research in Xinjiang, a comprehensive museum of history at the provincial level. Its outlook and interior decoration are in typical Uygur architecture. Displayed in the 7,800-square-meter main hall are more than 50,000 pieces of historical objects, cultural relics of local ethnic groups and cultural relics of revolutions in modern history. Among the permanent exhibits are those related to ethnic minorities living in Xinjiang, the history of Xinjiang, artifacts unearthed in Xinjiang and ancient mummies found in Xinjiang.
