Tuyu Gully
Located in Shanshan County, Tuyu Gully is a sanctuary for Buddhists and Moslems. The 1,000-Buddha Grottoes and Mazhar Mosque in this gully testify to the glorious days of these two religions. The 1,000-Buddha Grottoes, known in ancient times as "Dinggu Temple", were built at quite an early date in the Turpan area. They contain many frescoes from ancient times. In one of the stone caves is a bed for the Buddha sot sit on. It is the only bed in China for such a purpose.
The Mazhar Mosque is a holy land for moslems in China. It is worshiped as "Mecca in China". Pilgrims from all over the world visit the mosque in a constant flow.
