Xinjiang Border Permit

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region shares a borderline of 5,600 kilometers with the countries of Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tnjikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most areas along the borderline are open to tourists. But permits are needed to go to these areas. Those who have not obtained permits may be stopped at the frontier inspection stations. Chinese travelers can apply for the permit with their ID cards or relevant documents. Overseas travelers can apply for the permit with their passports.
